Jane Eyre

A theatrical adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s classic.

“There is only one thing I can do now to keep myself intact; to rescue myself from giving in to this overwhelming love. Now I must think of myself.”

One of literary history’s great characters brought to life by one of Canada's most exciting playwrights. Jane Eyre explores a brilliant young woman’s rise to her own potential and the trials by fire that shape her views on love and loyalty. This World Premiere takes a sharp, witty, and modern feminist dive into Charlotte Brontë’s masterpiece in its romantic original setting.

Reviews

“This rendition of Jane Eyre offers a unique and beautifully-performed interpretation that will have audiences rooting for the steadfast heroine.”

— Broadway World

“Shields’ play is sparkling and at times quite funny, whether through character quirks, Eyre’s hilariously blunt exchanges with Rochester, or even just the spectacle of a man wearing a rubber horse head while dutifully neighing.”

— Edmonton Journal
