Montparnasse

by Maev Beaty and Erin Shields with Andrea Donaldson

“We both know this was the first time you painted - really painted. You looked at me. You saw me. You finally let something in which is why something finally came out.”

Two Canadian girls travel to Paris in 1924 to become part of the raucous post-war scene - one is an artist model, the other, a painter. Through love, art, wine and encounters with the famous artists of their day, Mags and Amelia struggle to justify the relevance of the muse to the masterpiece.

“Beaty and Shields capture that hedonistic world of sex, art, booze and the obsessive need to paint. And there is nudity. Lots of it!”
